Court left behind an enviable body of work and recalls her experiences with Lee and Cushing as well as Vincent Price, Boris Karloff, and others On one occasion, Vincent Price visiting her home asked her who did the painting on her wall.

Vinnie didn't believe her when she said she did it and wound up buying a number of her paintings. Court also talks about her experiences making the various movies and TV shows she appeared in, including The Raven with Karloff, Price, Peter Lorre -- who went zooming around the set of The Raven once fitted with his raven wings and feathers -- and Jack Nicholson, and scripted by Richard Matheson who was increasingly emphasizing humor in his Poe scripts until writing a straight-forward comedy with The Raven.

The book is profusely illustrated with photos, black and white and color. They even include a small topless photo of Court from the European version of a Hammer film, showing off what were amusingly referred to by her daughter, in the foreword, as "the Hazel Courts. Lightweight, interesting reading. British actress Hazel Court has endeared herself to fans through a string of horror films she made in the '50s and '60s. Her graceful, dignified manner and voluptuous beauty were always major assets to every film she appeared in.

In between she recounts her stage, film and television career in a conversational style that makes for very engaging reading. She manages to pack into a brief pages many interesting experiences and anecdotes of people she knew and worked with. Through it all she reveals a warmth and inner beauty as radiantly enduring as her image on the screen.

The book is lavishly illustrated with photos, most of which are lovely glamour and pinup shots, and these make a strong selling point. This is just the kind of book Hazel Court fans have been hoping for, and the nice thing is it's written by her.

A fitting tribute to a beautiful actress who we come to know was an equally beautiful soul. Images in this review. I could not agree more with the reviewer who noted the connection between Hazel Court and the libidos of baby-boomer males. Indeed, I was among them. Horror films were a staple of our youth.

In fact, over the years I've seldom met a male fan my age who hasn't known who Hazel Court was. For even if some of the parts she played were small ones, her presence on the screen was devastating. You had to read the credits to learn the name of any woman that beautiful! And it stuck with you. Hazel Court. Which has led me, fifty-five years later, to her fine autobiography. I found it a joy to read. Clearly, it was written by a person whose mind was as beautiful as her face and form.

The multitude of photos were breathtaking as well. Hazel Court - Horror Queen is now my coffee table book, and it has sparked several lively conversations in the two weeks that it has been there.

It's a shame that Hazel died the same month in which her book came out. She deserved some time to bask in it, I think. Hazel Court was a stunning British actress. She was a red-haired beauty with a gorgeous body and charm to match. She added that touch of class and glamour to each project she participated in. As the title of the book suggests, she was mostly associated with product of the horrific kind and was probably, and unfortunately, underrated as a very fine actress.

This memoir of hers comes highly recommended especially to those of us who grew up with a huge crush on her. She is very candid and informative about her life and career.

It's a quick read and loaded with lots of photos many of them being of the pinup variety. Back in the fifties and sixties Ms. Court was among the pantheon of actresses that triggered the libidos of many young baby-boomer males.

In the introduction to this book, Ms. Court's daughter mentions the fascination her mother's boobs elicited and says they were known as 'The Hazel Courts'. The European version appears to be lost to the ages - but, Ms.

Court herself includes in the book a small colour photo of herself posing naked from the waist up - thereby satisfying the curiosity of all her male admirers who longed for a peek under her blouse. This book is a must for all Hazel Court fans, Cinema buffs and anyone who enjoys a fascinating glimpse into the life of a remarkable woman.

See all reviews. Top reviews from other countries. Firstly let me say what a joy it was to read this terrific autobiography by one of Britain's first "Scream Queen's"-Hazel Court! I have admired the lovely Miss Court's acting since I first caught sight of her in the movie "The Premature Burial" when I was about 6yrs old and it was shown on our old TV set sometime back in the early 's.

I remember thinking apart from not really being allowed to watch the film because my parents thought me-quite rightly-too young-"who is that lovely lady?

However-I digress. Her autobiography is a joy to read and I recommend it highly. Her voice really does ring out through the whole of the book and she comes across as a very warm and loveable human being-her love of animals and nature are also highlighted as is the fact she was a truly talented Painter and Sculpter!! The only downside-if there really is one-is that I found it wasn't long enough!.

It is packed with many candid and more recognisable photos from all of Miss Court's films TV and stage work with some really superb stills from many of her more recognisable film work in "Hammer" movies such as "Th Masque of the Red Death" and "The Raven" all beautifully reproduced here-many full page size. If you are a Hammer Horror fan then this is a must-have purchase! A very easy-to-read autobiography with plenty of interesting photographs Hazel Court was a product of the Rank Charm School which was set up in the s to produce actors who might be of use to the producers.

Hazel Court graduated from bit parts to leading roles in many B pictures in the s and then on to become the Horror Queen in Cormans British films made in the UK in the s. Unlike many autobiogs this is written in a very disarming and self deprecatory manner which is very refreshing. There are many photos including one topless. In the s British film makers would make 2 versions.

One for the rather staid British censor the other "continental" version where everything was on show. My only slight problem with the book is the size in whichn it has been printed. It is not a book that one can easily take around with you or read on holiday. However the content is first class.
